MICF 2014 - I Love Green Guide Letters (1)

29th March 2014 - 4:30 pm

"Do Hughesy doing Nelson Mandela as played by Morgan Freeman in The Shawshank Redemption narration."

This and the result of that 'challenge' to Dave Thornton from Tom Gleeson left me laughing so hard I could barely breathe.

It was referencing the I Love Green Guide Letters Meredith episode.
Infamous is probably one word to describe it.
Steele and Dave were on some fantastic chips.
Allegedly.

The podcast was in The Swanston Hotel, a hotel whose entrance I’ve walked past many times and paid absolutely no attention to accept to dodge people with cases walking out slightly dazed into the overcast brilliance of a Melbourne day.
I may have also been into the Haigh’s chocolate shop next door to it once or twice (though if I’m going to Haigh’s I’ll go to the Block Arcade as it’s a larger shop and going into the Block Arcade is just a bit of magic in Melbourne).

The space in the Downstairs Lounge of Swanston Hotel was an odd space.
The space was as Steele Saunders commented a bunker for presentations.
The podcast began with Steele talking over his recent successful return to Studio 10.
Then the guests; Dave Thornton, Tom Gleeson and Peter Helliar were introduced.

From there launched into a chat about what was their worst times on TV.

Gleeson's was doing a gig on Recovery at 9am in the morning in a TV studio graveyard set.
Helliar's was on James O'Laughlin's show O’Loghlin on Saturday Night which Gleeson wrote for. Whilst Thornton's was on a daytime TV show that Bert Newton hosted, he did some standup during all of it however Bert was stood behind him.

After the Dave Thornton doing Hughesy doing Mandela as Morgan Freeman it’s all a little bit of a blur for me.
There was a classic letter concerning Skithouse and Peter Helliar read out by Steele, and also some current letters from the Green Guide.
Mostly concerning the ongoing perceived inaccuracies with The Doctor Blake Mysteries. It’s almost getting as bad as staplegate.

I Love Green Guide Letters along with The Little Dum Dum Club are two of my favourite shows of the MICF because they’re unexpected, they’re random and they’re fantastic value. With I Love Green Guide Letters you’re getting the fantastic Steele Saunders and three fantastic comedian guests on. It’s basically a chat show, live and without cameras, but recorded so you can enjoy it all again. But Steele’s an editing wizard so you need to see the live show to hear and see all the amazing hilarity that may be edited away from the podcast into the secret section.
